Last weekend, our community came together to smelt twenty-five pounds of iron in a bloomery furnace that they built together at The Crucible. Every aspect of the smelt was a team effort, from collecting magnetite sand from a local beach to building the bloomery furnace.
Our studios are still buzzing from Saturday’s Fire and Water Open House! We had over 1,000 attendees, and our expert faculty gave demonstrations all day. From molten bronze poured into ice in our Foundry to fresh raku firings, this was an Open House for the books!

Alexis Pavlantos started teaching Jewelry and Foundry classes at The Crucible five years ago. Her own jewelry and sculptural work is inspired by creatures with as many legs from four to one thousand and objects in their natural raw state. We are so excited to have Alexis vending at GIFTY 2017 for the fourth year in a row.
