Continuing Class (See prerequisites in description) Enameling
Description
Plique-à-jour (open to light) is the most admired of the French enameling techniques. Enamel is fired into a backless frame, creating a luminous effect similar to looking through a stained glass window. In this class you will learn how to design, make, and finish pierced plique-à-jour pieces, sawing out metal and filling the spaces with vitreous enamel. We will work with fine silver and various enamels to make pendants and earrings.
PREREQUISITE: Enameling I AND Jewelry I, or equivalent prior experience enameling, sawing, and soldering.

Miranda Andersen is a metalsmith and enamel artist with a love of tiny things. She explores the intersection of line, light, and color through enamel on metal to create one-of-a-kind artwork and modern, elegant wearable art. With a penchant for intricate details and ancient techniques, Miranda’s favorite processes include cloisonné enameling, hand-pushed engraving, and metalsmithing with mokume-gane. Every piece is crafted with joy. Miranda joined The Crucible faculty in 2021 after spending several years as a student, event volunteer, and Jewelry Department intern.
