Description
Discover the expressive potential of vitreous enamel in this innovative 4-day class with Judy Stone, where enamel becomes your drawing medium. Stone approaches enamel drawing in two main ways: subtraction and addition. In subtraction, you'll explore Sgraffito—scratching through one layer of enamel to reveal another layer or the bare metal beneath, creating lines, shading, and striking negative space. For addition, you’ll learn to draw on various enameled surfaces using pencils, chalks, pens, graphite, and even metalpoint (sometimes called silverpoint). To add a splash of color, students can also experiment with enamel overglazes. By the end of the class, each student will complete at least two enameled wall pieces ready to mount and display. No prior drawing experience is required, though some experience is helpful to get the most out of this immersive exploration of enamel as a dynamic drawing medium.
