BIO

Mário Pires Cordeiro, born in 1975 in Lisbon, Portugal, is an artist based in San Francisco, California. He received his MFA at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London and completed two years of a PhD researching color trends in fine arts. MPC participated in the London alternative art scene for six years. He has been commissioned by the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Cape Farewell Foundation. In 2015, he moved to California. MPC’s art develops the relationship between fine art and design, commenting on the interaction between visual art and functional products through experimentation in media and color. Color is the main focus of MPC’s art, unpacking the symbolic and cultural meaning imposed on color in contemporary society while utilizing color trends to anticipate the trajectories of today’s chromatic practices. He often works with seasonal color forecasts for interior or product design. He draws inspiration from architecture, geometry, nature, and space travel, speaking to the way we as humans engage with our world of shapes. He works with a variety of media from painting and sculpting to film and 3D printing.
