There are classes to suit just about anyone’s schedule, including several NEW classes just added.

Halloween Family Fun Weekend

Saturday & Sunday – Oct 31 & Nov 1

Halloween Family Fun Weekend classes offer a family member discounted tuition when you take a class together. The tuition is for one adult and one child age 12 and up. As far as family goes, you define family, not us.

So why stop at carving a pumpkin when you can carve hot metal! Check out what we still have open below:

In Blacksmithing
Forgewelding
Weekend Intensive, Oct. 24-25
This advanced blacksmithing skill has long been the mark of “expert status” in metalworking and is often used in bladesmithing.

In Ceramics
Create a Blessing Bowl
2 Sundays, Nov. 8 & 15
In this class you’ll experience the special joy of giving and receiving, while you learn basic ceramic skills.

In Hot Wheels
Bike Mechanic Workshop
3 Sessions, starts Oct. 17
You will leave this class with your bike deep and completely tuned up, as well as a solid working knowledge of bike repair.

In Moldmaking
Life Casting
5 Sessions, starts Nov. 3.
In this class you will learn the basics of creating a negative mold to make your unique sculpture using the human form.

In Resources for Artists
Discovering the Artist in You
5 Sessions, starts Oct. 22. Access your creativity and find your muse through a unique approach that includes movement, breath awareness and lots of engaging materials.

In Textiles
T-Shirt Reconstruction
3 Sessions, starts Nov. 10.
Learn how to re-size, cut and convert your old clothes and transform them into new and exciting garments.

Classes for Beginners

Introduction to Fire Staff
5 sessions, starts Nov. 2
Learn the fundamental skills you need to spin a single fire staff. Each student will make a practice staff to keep.

Sand Casting in Bronze & Aluminum
8 sessions, starts October 14
Working with resin-bonded sand, you’ll learn mold building basics. Then as part of a casting team, you’ll have the exhilarating experience of pouring molten bronze or aluminum.

Cartoneria (Mexican Paper Sculpture)
8 sessions, starts October 14
In this course you will create fantastic and colorful sculptures from paper and recycled materials, using mythological beasts and characters as a starting point. Any student over the age of 12 is welcome in this class.

Concrete Sculpture
8 sessions, starts October 12
This class will explore the diverse ways that this cold, industrial material can become vibrant and organic, taking you from drawing board to finished sculpture.

Woodcarving
8 sessions, starts Oct. 12
You will learn to design a carving and to transform your design into a three dimensional object.

Introduction to Welded Sculpture
5 sessions, starts Nov. 2
You’ll learn to join pieces of metal using arc welding and slice through metal with the hot flame of an oxyacetylene torch. When done you’ll have a small sculpture to take home.

Classes for Continuing Artists

Bronze Metal Finishing
3 sessions, starts Nov. 5
Learn tools and techniques of metal chasing-grinding, sanding, filing, texturing, and polishing. As well as a session on creating a patina for the final touch.

Techniques in Ornamental Iron Work
5 sessions, starts Nov. 4
This class will include orthographic drawing and traditional methods of making decorative ironwork. Techniques taught and explored will include scrollwork, hot chisel work, twisting, floral design, and other form-shaping procedures.

Jewelry – Casting Wax to Silver
5 sessions starting Nov. 5
This is a perfect class for those wanting to cast a custom wedding ring! It introduces several methods for working with wax, as well as the different types of wax and the properties of each. Your completed wax sculptures will be cast into silver.

Friday, October 9th • 6PM – 8:45PM

Join The Crucible and SF Bay Guardian for a very special, FREE program of dance, art, crafts and funk in honor of the de Young’s most celebrated guest, King Tutankhamun!

A total of 150 vendors will inspire and adorn you with an incredible variety of beads – most of which never appear at other local shows.
