The Crucible is an Oakland-based industrial arts center and the hub of a vibrant community of artists. The Crucible offers classes in blacksmithing, welding, glass, metal casting, fire dancing, neon, woodworking, and other industrial arts to 5,000 students each year. The Crucible’s Youth Program serves over 3000 youth annually, half of whom are members of our West Oakland community who have access to free classes and workshops. The Crucible produces two innovative events annually: the Fire Arts Festival, an open-air four-day event celebrating all things fire and light, and an annual anniversary event, which combines traditional and fire arts in a theatrical spectacle. Mission: The Crucible is an educational facility that fosters a collaboration of Arts, Industry and Community. Through training in the fine and industrial arts, The Crucible promotes creative expression, reuse of materials and innovative design while serving as an accessible arts venue for the general public.
