He received his Ph.D. in Metallurgical and Mineralogical Sciences at John Hopkins University. He lives in Berkeley, and is currently employed in the Chemistry and Materials Science Directorate at the Lawrence National Laboratory. He enjoys working with wood and metal, which inspired him to build most of the furnishings in his home.
