Alex Smith was born into a family of machinists and craftsmen in Berkeley. Alex received his BA in sculpture from UC Santa Cruz where he was a teachers aid in both the Metal Fabrication and Foundry studios. He has been casting metal for seven years and in addition to instructing, he also does the commission casting works for The Crucible.
