LAST CHANCE FOR SUMMER CLASSES & WORKSHOPS
If you’re in a quandary about where to go for a late summer vacation, how about staying home and having a “make-ation” at The Crucible. Our 5-day Adult Summer Workshops are a great way to do something different and avoid the hassles and expense of travel. Starting July 21 and August 4th, these workshops give you all the instruction and materials you need to create something in blacksmithing, welding, woodworking, glass working and more. Two more Family Fun Weekends remain to provide your family with an experience unlike most summer activities, and many more evening and weekend classes still remain.

deYoung Museum's Kimball Education Gallery Reception
During the month of July, The Crucible has been in residence at the deYoung Museum's Kimball Education Gallery collaborating with the community to create a public art piece titled Unity with Nature. Inspired by the Chihuly exhibition, the project invites museum visitors to work with Crucible staff, faculty and volunteers to create a tree using glass fusing and clay forming skills and drawing inspiration from the natural environment around the museum. The tree is growing with each participant's personal expression, and when finished the work will symbolize the strength of unity with nature and the interconnection of art, people and the natural world.
Mark your calendars to join us in the Kimball Gallery for the closing reception on July 25th, when the completion of the project will be celebrated with light refreshments and live music.
Friday July 25th 6:00 -- 8:45 PM

| ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY + PERFORMANCE = DIE MOTO |
 |

|
The Greenline Industries Die Moto Project, built by The Crucible is revving up to break its own World Land Speed Record. Last year the innovative green machine set the record for a bio-diesel fuel motorcycle, hitting over 130 mph. (click here to see what it looked like from the rider's point of view!)
"The mission of the Die Moto project is to demonstrate that environmental responsibility and alternative technology have a place in the headlines and history books of high performance vehicles," says team leader and rider, Michael Sturtz, "And we expect to get Die Moto up to 160 mph on our next run."
SPONSORS WANTED!
The Die Moto team is looking for additional sponsors to support September's 2008 run at BUB Speed Trials at Bonneville and fund the re-engineering of the Die Moto to reach its full potential. If you are interested in becoming a part of history and calling attention to the need to integrate environmental responsibility with automotive performance, contact Michael Sturtz at michael@thecrucible.org. |
