Liz Judkins works both creatively and professionally with steel. A painter, sculptor, sewer, tinkerer, her first love is that of simply making, no matter the media. She has been an artist all her life, but when she first held a torch to a piece of steel, there was a certain, unmistakable draw. Her current passion is metal because the possibilities and challenges are apparently endless and the results are so satisfying. For her, there is a world of stories in a pile of discarded metal, waiting to be told in many different ways. She loves the heat of the forge and can sometimes be found pounding away on hot steel in the smithy.
A Bay Area native, she studied painting at the CCA and sculpture at San Francisco State University. She found a home at The Crucible where she is able to exchange ideas and constantly learn new techniques and media. She enjoys taking Crucible classes and expanding her knowledge and skill set. She teaches welding courses, maintains the welding facility and works as a studio manager. She also works as a fabricator for Red Frog Metal Design and creates steel objects for her own company, Saw Tooth Metal.
