CLASSES

Introduction to Sewing: A Crash Course
Entry-level class
For beginners, this four-hour workshop is the perfect way to become better acquainted with your sewing machine. You’ll learn sewing machine operation, troubleshooting, parts, various sewing tools and their uses, as well as foolproof methods for sewing a straight seam and turning corners. The class will also cover types of fabric and their uses. You must bring your own sewing machine to class.

Cartoneria (Mexican Paper Sculpture)
Entry-level class
In this class you’ll learn cartoneria, the ancient and popular art form of Mexican papier-mâché. Cartoneria combines Aztec styles with Spanish techniques and is deeply rooted in ancient Mexican legends, traditions, and craftsmanship. In this course, you will create fantastic and colorful sculptures from paper and recycled materials, using mythological beasts and characters as a starting point. Any student over the age of 12 is welcome in this class.

OTHER CLASSES YOU MAY ENJOY . . .

Incorporating Found Objects into Your Jewelry (Jewelry)
Entry-level class
Explore color, textures, fabrics, or a narrative by including found objects in your work. In this two-weekend class, you’ll learn how to connect objects with a variety of rivets, tabs, small screws and bolts, epoxies, and bezel settings. You will learn how to fabricate a variety of pin backs and hinges and how to work through design issues involving pre-existing materials. Bring objects and words that you would like to incorporate into a jewelry piece to the first class.
