Stone Working

The Crucible’s stone classes teach the skills you need carve stone, sculpt it into vibrant and organic art pieces, to mold it into furniture and even cast concrete countertops.  You'll learn traditional hand-carving techniques and how to work with pneumatic tools, as well as how to design and shape different materials.

CLASSES

Stone Carving
Entry-level class
Learn stone carving from a professional whose work is displayed on buildings throughout London. In this hands-on class, you’ll move from traditional hand-carving techniques to pneumatic tools as you learn advanced tricks of the stone-carving trade.

Concrete Sculpture
Entry-level class
This class will explore the diverse ways that this cold, industrial material can become vibrant and organic, taking you from drawing board to finished sculpture. This introduction to designing and directly shaping concrete sculpture will examine building forms and armatures, mixing colors, incorporating other materials, and more.  Come prepared to stretch your imagination.

OTHER CLASSES YOU MAY ENJOY . . .

Sculpting in Clay (Ceramics)
Entry-level class
This is a great place to start if you have absolutely no experience creating sculpture. This introductory class provides a foundation in three-dimensional work and prepares you to become a sculptor. You will learn a technique that uses your whole body and breath, allowing you to be fully present in the process of making your art. We will cover techniques from traditional to more modern and unconventional methods and approaches. The skills you acquire will enable you to create sculpture that could eventually be cast in bronze or glass.
